Nia Wilson, aged 18, was stabbed and killed in an apparent hate crime that also left her older sister in the hospital in critical condition.
The attack took place around 9:45 pm at McArthur Station on July 22. According to Agency spokesman Jim Allison, the suspect was described by witnesses as a heavyset white man in his 20s or 30s, with short hair.
The cousin of Nia Wilson described her to be a “beautiful, and sweet person,” and when probed further, she added, “she loved fashion, and doing makeup.” A tragic end to a beautiful beginning.
According to her cousin, Nia was out celebrating her late boyfriend’s birthday. Two years ago he drowned in a lake, and Sunday marked its two-year anniversary. Unfortunately, Nia was murdered while she was out celebrating.
Nia’s father was interviewed and after fighting his emotions, he exclaimed: “I want justice for my daughter!” The attacker has been apprehended, and further news regarding the arrest has not been released.
As racial tension boils in America, with Blacks receiving the short end of the treatment, I believe its time we as humans acknowledge and realize the worth of each human life-regardless of color. As we await more news, lets we put the Wilson family in our prayers.
