Beauty of Business panelist and Toronto native, DJ Rosegold, embodies the heartwarming story of turning your passion into an impactful career. Rosegold grew up in a passionate house full of love and endless music. She greatly appreciated Caribbean artists like Vybz Kartel and Tommy Lee. With her father being a reggae artist and her brother Chillaa being an artist and producer, for DJ RoseGold music was like breathing. It was effortless.
Rosegold University: Homecoming brings the energy and memories of times spent at Carnival, J’ouvert, and any bumpin’ house party.
The Instrumental
DJ Rosegold is not new to mixing sounds and getting the party lit! Her talent was recognized in high school parties by her peers.
After attending school to be a French teacher, Rosegold questioned her passion. When she gained confidence with mixing on her phone, she took things to the next step.
“One day, I decided to go to the music store and buy one of the DJ controllers. If I was doing this on my phone, I felt that I could do this in real life. I asked them ‘What’s the return policy if I don’t like this?’ I wasn’t even sure if this was going to be something I was going to enjoy,” RoseGold said.
The Building Blocks of the University
Assuredly, Rosegold started the process of her introduction to the world. Rosegold shared her process of finalizing her vision for her first EP.
“The project did not start like this. It started with the idea of wanting to be the next female DJ Khaled,” she said. “I feel that coming out as a producer saying ‘Hey, I’m DJ Rosegold. I’m not just a DJ. I felt that it was important to let people know who I am through this project.”
Taking Control Creatively
As the project was in process, DJ Rosegold made sure to be hands-on at all times. She prioritizes creative control in every aspect of her career, whether it be her brand, partnerships, deals, etc.
DJ Rosegold wants to encourage up-and-coming artists to vocalize their goals and intentions within their creative journey. She emphasizes how the message should stay authentic at all times.
“Everything I do I want it to be authentic to me. If I am putting out a body of work, I want people to know that it came from me. It is important for me to have creative control. I need my message to get across. I’m not trying to get out a message that someone else wants me to get across,” she said.
The Impact
After receiving an immense amount of support, Rosegold expresses a sense of pride to release and produce her own EP. She credits her brother as being one of the most important driving forces behind the executive production and execution of the EP.
“I am honored that it has been received so well. My goal was to be able to get recognition for my hard work. To be able to put it out to the masses to encourage young women that this is something you can do,” she said.
DJ Rosegold has definitely has made a strong and concise introduction by showing her roots and expressing her purpose. A Rosegold University mentorship program is in progress to continue her goal of encouraging young womenDJ Rosegold is nowhere near finished.
