It is refreshing to see self care become a topic of discussion. There are a plethora of videos and articles that share activities that can be therapeutic. But, many of the self care activities are very costly. Everyone should have the right to take care of themselves without spending money. Self care does not always include retail therapy, trips out the country and expensive spa days. It is very devastating when people say they cannot afford to take care of themselves. Here are five activities you can do if you are on a tight budget or just don’t have it. You are seen, heard and felt.
1. Yoga
Yoga is mentally and physically challenging. This is a perfect activity to do alone and clear your mind. While doing this, you can learn about your body and get in tune. It is very important to have a self care activity that requires reflection in the body and mind. Yoga provide many health benefits for your body. Yoga can relieve aches and pains, improve immune system, build strength and improve mental health. Also can alleviate heart conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
2. Meditation
Meditation can be done once you completed a yoga flow. It is is great way to calm down when in a state of panic, anxiety, and disarray. There is no right way to meditate. As long as you are calm and collected, then you have achieved the goal. Similar to yoga, this activity can help with connection to your mind and body. Taking time to meditate can help you change your mentality for the day. Try it the next time you feel overwhelmed.
3. Sleep
Rest can be the best thing to do for our bodies. It is important to get the right amount of sleep daily. Of course, life hits us with deadlines and a long list of responsibilities. It is hard to get some rest. If you want to partake in sleep as your self care time, make sure your ringer is completely off. It is hard to get self care time if you are by a ringing phone. It is okay to not be available for a few hours. Our society has made it a crime to not being open 24/7. Let’s break that concept. You have full right to do whatever you please with your time. Yes, sleeping can be one of those things.
4. Dinner for 2 at La Casa
Whip up those fryers! Cooking alone can be very soothing. Whether you are blasting your favorite album or movie, it is time to let everything simply be. No one is watching you. It is just you, your wine glass, your food and vibes. While your dinner is cooking, don’t forget to set the mood. Yes, you are on a date with yourself at home. Make yourself feel special! Light candles, run a bath and get in your favorite robe. It is okay if you aren’t sure how to do a solo date. As you get to know yourself, it will become easier. It is important to make yourself feel special.
5. Dance & Vibe
It is important to find a self care activity that moves your body. Yoga may not be something you prefer. Dancing can be an outlet to release everything. You have permission to do it with no fear of judgement. Dance in your living room, your bathroom, kitchen or wherever you feel comfortable. Dancing in the mirror can increase confidence in your body. Seeing your body move and bring joy can change how you see yourself. Let your body know that you love and cherish everything about it.
Self care doesn’t have to be an added expense. You don’t have to be spend money to bring joy to your life. The littlest things can bring joy, peace and security. If we allow it in our lives. Let’s look at self care from a deeper point of view. Money isn’t everything.
