Michaela Coel is set to join Donald Glover in Amazon’s TV reboot of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The show will follow the 2005 film of the same name starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. This will be Coel and Glover’s first collaboration together.
The two stars have already created their own successful shows, Coel with I May Destroy You and Glover with Atlanta. In 2020, Glover interviewed Coel for GQ Magazine praising her show and saying how it inspired him.
“I guess the biggest compliment I can give [the show] is this: It made me feel super inspired,” Glover said. “And [before], I was not feeling very inspired. It really broke me out of feeling that everything’s the same. Your show is such a good feeling, and flavour.”
Coel joins an all-star cast led by Glover and Maya Erskine, alongside Paul Dano and John Turturro.
Glover’s hit show Atlanta will debut its final season, and Coel is working on her I May Destroy You follow up for BBC and is set to appear in Black Panther 2.
The Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot has not yet received a premiere date, but will possibly be released sometime in 2023.
