Of course, we love a natural glow! However, there is nothing wrong with playing around with the art of makeup. Our skin is one of a kind. Over the last decade, makeup for all of our shades was made available but the beauty industry still lacked MUA of color. As a result, many of our legends were left to do their own makeup before big events. Some would mix foundation and other products together to match their skin tone as close as possible. Take the lovely Donyale Luna for example. She was the world’s first black supermodel and many people believed she was bleaching her skin. In reality, many MUAs did not know how to properly apply their makeup. Plus, with the lack of makeup for darker tones, Luna’s skin would appear lighter than usual.
Today a face beat sets the tone for our favorite cover girl(s). We know our favorites are stunning with or without makeup, but we owe it all to the MUAs for creating some of the most iconic looks. Here’s to our black MUA shifting the game.

Proper skin care is key to wearing makeup so it is important to have artists like Daley on your side. Sheika Daley is also a fabulous entrepreneur – creator of Elora Lane Lashes. Her handcrafted lashes are the cherry on top with a perfect glam look.

She challenges the makeup world by redefining the art of it all. Raisa Flowers is creating her own lane in the makeup world and we love to see it. Her looks are not just bold they are a game-changer. From runways to your favorite magazine look, Flowers is THAT girl in the beauty world. We can thank her for her futuristic beat on Rihanna and even on the Met Gala Red Carpet. Some may say she is pushing the envelope but we say Flowers is the push the beauty industry needs.

Her make-up artistry is global. Catch her in Paris for fashion week, LA for the red carpet, or even Tokyo with an effortless beat. Porsche Cooper is a trailblazing make-up guru who has currently slayed looks on Golden Globe winner Andra Day. We can thank Cooper for some of the most stunning moments in the entertainment world. Her brush game has graced many women like Mary J. Blige, Winnie Harlow, Iman, and Angela Bassett. Her credentials speak for themselves. Porsche Cooper is a beautiful force in the beauty industry that exudes black girl magic!
Christiana Cassell
She’s the finishing touch to our favorite R&B sister duo Chloe X Halle. She is also the glam look behind our favorite acting sister duo, Malika and Khadijah Haqq. We can always count on a classic slay from Christiana Cassell with her signature soft glam beat. The LA-based artist has created timeless looks for Teyana Taylor, Kash Doll, and models like the beautiful Adut Akech Bior. Cassell’s artistry captured our hearts in Beyonce’s “Brown Skin Girl” visual (with model Adut Bior). Melanin-rich-skinned models and artists have always faced challenges whether it’s in the beauty or entertainment world. Christiana Cassell is becoming a beauty hero by dedicating her artistry to all complexions. Cassell artistry will never go unnoticed as her perfected craft is changing the game not only as a makeup artist but as a hairstylist as well.

From our favorite Housewives of Atlanta to the legendary Regina King! We cannot forget to give thanks to Latrice Johnson for her extraordinary face beat. Her natural glam looks have taken the beauty world by storm and it’s perfect for the red carpet. We can easily catch a Johnson glam on The Real with Sherrie Shepard and even on a major print publication. Our favorite Johnson glam creation can be seen on the Emmy’s, Golden Globe’s, and the Academy’s red carpet. No matter the occasion, Johnson’s glam will always serve a stunning glow.
