The hit television show “Grown-ish,” recently wrapped up its third season. “Grown-ish” is always trending on Twitter. Always keeping fans on the edge of their seats with a lot of controversies that happens on the show. We have issues ranging from proper college funding, being the side piece, and sexuality. Don’t worry, we’re going to be as open and honest as we can.
In 2018, “Grown-ish” made its debut. Following one of the characters Zoey Johnson from the T.V show, “Black-ish.” Zoey is finding her way through California University. She meets a good bunch of people and those people eventually turn into her closest friends. We go on this journey of adulthood with Zoey and the other characters on the show. So let’s get into it!
Black Lives Matter, Always and Forever.
This isn’t a controversial topic at all. Black Lives Matter, point blank period. The main issue one of our characters Aaron had to deal with was constantly reminding his white counterparts how much Black Lives Matter. Aaron has been doing this since we were introduced to his character. During season three, we learn that Cal U. is investing student tuition into private prisons. This didn’t sit well with any of the characters, especially Aaron.
The question is what would you do if you were Aaron and you found out this information? You found out your school has been lying to you. Would you start a revolution or wait for someone else to do it? I’ll admit, starting a revolution or being a leader of something that sparked so much controversy is scary. But, it’s necessary. We commend Aaron and anyone else that was valiant enough to start a revolution for the right cause.
Playing a game of tag
The biggest thing to come out of this series was watching Aaron and Zoey play around with each other. You’d have one person ready to commit to the other and the other person wasn’t ready at all. At the end of season two, Zoey broke it off with longtime boyfriend Luca. When they broke up, she knew Aaron was the one. Aaron dropped Zoey off at the airport so she could start her dream of being a celebrity fashion styler. Zoey and Aaron kissed leaving their relationship up in the air and ending the season. They’ve had many more kissing scenes and still never made it official!
Coming back to season three Zoey is continuing to style Joey Bada$$ and her newest client Indigo. She realizes that her feelings for Aaron aren’t just going to go away. Indigo tells her that she should text him and let him know wassup and that’s what Zoey did. She spilled her heart to Aaron and told him that when she gets home she wants to link.
Zoey gets home excited to see Aaron only to find out… he upped a girl. We felt for Zoey. How could Aaron get a girlfriend after he and Zoey kissed each other? It wasn’t adding up. It made sense when Aaron told Zoey he chased her around for three years. That he waited for her but, Zoey chose Luca and Aaron would bounce from one girl to another. Aaron even broke the code and slept with Ana, Zoey’s BFF.
I think lots of people were frustrated that Aaron got a new boo but, we couldn’t be mad at him when he told Zoey the truth. I know it’s a lot of us out there that want the two of them to be together but, not if it’s going to messy!
How to know you’re the side piece 101
As season three started to wind down, things got messy. Aaron and Zoey met up with each other at a party to talk about keeping their distance from one another because Aaron’s girlfriend wasn’t comfortable with them being friends. Zoey tried so hard to keep her distance from Aaron but, that just made her want him more. Zoey told Aaron that she’s in love with him, then the two of them made love.
I guess at that moment Aaron forgot he had a girlfriend and Zoey forgot that the man she’s in love with isn’t single but, that right there, was grimey. For starters, you cheating on your girlfriend then kissing her all up in her face. Sounds backward to me. Zoey’s wrong because Aaron isn’t her boyfriend and that could’ve been her and Aaron a long time ago. They both were playing games.
Now Zoey is walking around campus with Timbs on and her hair pinned up ready to fight. Over a boy? We don’t do that. We don’t fight over boys but we also don’t have sex with taken men. Aaron’s girlfriend didn’t find out about the two of them sleeping together but, she wanted to be friends with Zoey because of how close Zoey and Aaron are.
Zoey’s the side piece and what side piece wants to pour out their heart to the man they’re in love with just for him to tell another woman he loves her? If you’re sleeping with a guy and he has a girlfriend, whether you’re cool with it or not, you are undoubtedly the side piece. But my good sis, there are other men out there. “He’s very dreamy but, he is not the sun, you are.”
Committed to God but really wanna lay it down on him
An issue Ana had to face this season of “Grown-ish” was wanting to have sex with a guy that is committed to God. Ana is committed to God as well, we learned that the beginning of the show. But, as time pass by, you start to lose sight of the things you may actually need in your life. Things started to get out of control for Ana when she slept with Aaron. Aaron just wanted to have sex with her and she wanted to be with him. She would’ve done anything, even give up her temple for him.
When she met her current boyfriend, he knew it was more to her than just her body but, they both wanted to lay it down on each other. Being committed to God but wanting to fulfill your sexual needs is hard but, if you’re willing to do it, you can. You’re already doing great by trying and if you mess up, there’s room to try again. We love a king and queen that truly cares about their relationship with our lord and savior.
I asked you to wait for me but slept with someone else…
The last topic is one of the biggest ones to come out of this season. Doug and Jazz! Season three contained Jazz and Sky preparing for the Olympics and other race trials. Jazz knew how busy her schedule would get and Sky had to tell her that her relationship was conflicting with track. Jazz didn’t want to break it off with her boyfriend Doug so, she asked him to wait for her. They were doing that until one night the track team had a party and Jazz had a one-night stand.
Jazz felt bad about it and told Doug and he tried to act like he wasn’t hot and bothered but he was. Doug even took it upon himself and slut shamed her for doing something when they weren’t together. The thing that bothered us is that, he agreed on these terms as well and Jazz didn’t have to tell him but, she loves him, that’s why she did. Also, if Doug didn’t want to wait for her because her sleeping with someone else was an option, he didn’t have too.
The two of them ended up meeting one night, almost getting in between the sheets but, Doug couldn’t help but imagine Jazz hooking up with her one-night stand. During the season three finale, Jazz breaks up with Doug leaving the future of their relationship and friendship up in the air.
Now that we’ve got all of the drama out of the way, what do y’all think will happen in season 4 of Grown-ish? Will Zoey and Aaron’s love prevail? Will they show Rochelle and how she feels about Aaron and Zoey? Can Ana and her boo forget about the sex and just be together? Will Doug and Jazz get back together? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
