Virgil Abloh, founder of OFF-WHITE, sat down with W Magazine to discuss his recent controversy with Raf Simons when Simons called him “unoriginal”.
Abloh feels that “his critique shows the line in the sand about youth culture”. He went on to speak deeper about it to W Mag, saying that there is a divide between those in the industry that do and don’t accept streetwear as a real medium of fashion. Abloh doesn’t want this to discourage younger designers. He commented:
“I don’t come from where I’m supposed to come from. So I have to prove that this is design, that this is art, that this is valid. I’m always trying to prove to my 17-year-old self that I can do creative things I thought weren’t possible.”
