Trinidad James is bringing the heat to your feet with a new collaboration with Saucony. Since 2021, James’ label, Hommewrk, has worked with Saucony to bring consumers shoes that hold meaning. In April 2024, the Trinidad James x Saucony Sonic Low will be available.
This release is another reference to basketball and its rich history. Much like other Trinidad James x Saucony collaborations, the designs call back to trends and designs of the past. The Saucony Spot-Bilt Sonic Low has been dubbed the “Coach’s Shoe.”
The shoe copies shoe styles of the ’80s with a low-top cut, leather materials, and tinted soles. The Hommewrk label is imprinted on the tongues, while the Saucony label appears on one of the inside shoe soles. Along with the label, common women’s hairstyles are featured. The other shoe features the saying “Give ‘Em Hell” inscribed on the sole. According to Footwear Plus magazine, the “Coach’s Shoe” is meant to honor women in sports.
The sneakers, available April 5, 2024, retail for $140.
Trinidad James and Saucony can’t get enough of each other.
The April 2024 Trinidad James x Saucony release will mark the fourth collaboration between the two. In 2021, they released the Jazz ’81 “Trinidadian Heritage” sneakers. The pink and red colorway draws inspiration from sorrel, a popular drink throughout the Caribbean, including Trinidad and Tobago, James’ native country.
In 2022, they made the Jazz ’81 “Lunch Pale Yellow” sneaker collaboration available. In another attempt to honor James’ roots, the shoe represents the lunch pales he carried to and from school while living in Trinidad and Tobago.
While appearing on Complex’s “Full Size Run,” James rocked a pair of never-before-seen sneakers. The “All Gold Everything” rapper explained that the sneakers were another collaboration between his label and Saucony. The “Sonic Hi” sneakers began the collaborator’s homage to women’s sports.
These sneakers, specifically dedicated to women’s basketball, are orange with interchangeable orange and blue laces. 1976 was stamped on the heel of the shoe to honor the year women’s basketball first entered the Summer Olympics. The laces also feature a small hair clip for added flair. The shoes have yet to be released.
Hommewrk has been thriving since 2019.
James was set to take over the hip-hop industry after his hit single “All Gold Everything” topped the charts. However, James became less and less of a public figure. He was dropped from Def Jam after failing to turn in his album. Though he became a figure behind the scenes, writing and producing for acts like The City Girls and Flo Milli, the public saw very little of him.
In 2019, James launched the apparel line Hommewrk, effectively making him a fashion staple. The clothing line provides knowledge of the past to keep building the future. The brand also partners with schools to bring students exclusive uniforms.
Trinidad James x Saucony link-ups always have a deeper meaning and typically pay homage to underrepresented figures. The newest collaboration is no different. Add these to your wishlist now!
