“Carrie”

Carrie Poster 1

If I had to describe this movie in three words, it would be exhilarating, crazy, and thrilling.  If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I suggest you go see it right now! I never left a ‘scary’ movie  feeling so good! Not only was the plot and acting  pretty impressive, the people in the theater were hilarious (courtesy of Brooklyn)!

Just like the original, “Carrie” is about a teenage girl with supernatural powers, who has a hard time at home and school. Her mother is a psycho, religious weirdo and her classmates are mean pricks. Things go from bad to worst when Carrie gets her period in school.

I never saw the original because I am a 90’s baby, but my mom said the original “Carrie” is pretty close to this new updated version. Certain themes  like technology and sexual activity have changed, but nothing else. One thing that hasn’t changed is the concept of bullying. Carrie’s peers were really, really mean to Carrie. You can see how they pushed her to the edge. It was upsetting because Carrie honestly didn’t do anything to offend her classmates, but they tried their absolute best to tear her apart. Carrie didn’t have many happy moments in the movie. Her mother would punish her severely for small things and her peers made her an outcast. Her only glimpse of happiness appears at senior prom, but that too comes to a sudden halt when her bullies successfully execute their plan.

Kimberly Peirce (director) did a great job with this movie. Even though Carrie (Chloe Grace Mortez) was brutally killing her classmates at the end of the movie, you rooted for her the whole time. Instead of movie watchers holding their breath with terror, they were yelling chants of endearment, like “you go, girl!” or “yasssssss, kill that bitch, girl!” We understood that Carrie wasn’t evil, but a young girl, who was sick and tired of the bullshit. It sucks that her date (Ansel Elgort) had to die, but he was great eye candy! Overall, I give this movie four stars! It gave me everything I look for in a movie, good writing, exciting plot, drama, hoy guys, romance and bloody knight fights! Like I said, if you didn’t plan to watch this movie, do it now!

12 Years A Slave

Based on the true story of  Solomon Northup, “12 Years A Slave” is a great tale about a man’s fight for survival and freedom. Taking place in pre-civil war America , Solomon Northup played by Chiwetel Ejiofor is wrongfully abducted and sold into Slavery.
