The femcees began taking over hip-hop during the 2020s, and they are not letting up! As a new addition to the rap girl roster, Sexyy Red has taken the industry by storm. The rapper started gaining a following in 2018 after releasing viral songs, including “Ah Thousand Jugs.” Her celebrity status catapulted once “Pound Town” was released in 2023, which many fans consider to be one of Sexyy Red’s best songs.
Since being signed to Rebel Music, Red has continued to drop hit songs. Each new song seemingly takes over the internet and becomes another instant hit. Her vulgar yet relatable music has become the subject of many social media debates, bringing more buzz to the rapper’s name. However, her vulnerability, confidence, and humor have won over social media, making Red a fan favorite.
The 26-year-old, who celebrated her birthday on April 15, 2024, has soared in popularity, leading to many collaborations with major artists, including Drake, Nicki Minaj, and SZA. She also briefly served as Drake’s opening act during his It Was All A Blur Tour. In honor of her birthday, here are five of Sexyy Red’s best songs!
1. SkeeYee
In June 2023, Red released the single “SkeeYee,” an additional track from her mixtape “Hottest Hood Princess.” The rapper collaborated with acclaimed producer Tay Keith and jumped on the beat with her usual bold lyrics.
Before the song was released, a track snippet went viral on TikTok, catapulting it to success. Many listeners were unsure of the meaning of “SkeeYee,” yet they found the song catchy and humorous. “SkeeYee” became the first song to chart at No.1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50.
2. Pound Town
Before the release of “SkeeYee,” music listeners discovered Red after her song “Pound Town” went viral on TikTok. Although explicit and boisterous, the song was a fan favorite. The song earned the mother of two high praise from other artists, including Cardi B and Post Malone. In fact, Nicki Minaj jumped on the “Pound Town” remix, and the song blew up on social media.
In an interview with Complex, the St. Louis native revealed how she curated the lyrics.
“I was in the studio, just on some lazy stuff, and my people were like, ‘Come on, you got more songs to record.’ And I’m like, ‘I ain’t got nothing written down, come on now,'” she told the outlet. “So I went in the booth, and this was my first time freestyling. I heard the beat and just started rapping from there. The whole thing was a freestyle.”
3. Looking for the H*es
Red’s mixtape, “Hottest Hood Princess,” provided many hits, including “Looking for the H*es.” One particular bar, “You like my voice? It turns you on?” became a heavily used sound on TikTok. The subsequent music video was released in June 2023, revitalizing the song during the summer.
4. Bow Bow Bow (F My Baby Dad)
Originally released on her “Hottest Hood Princess” mixtape, “Bow Bow Bow” is considered a sleeper hit. While the song was released in 2023, it wasn’t until 2024 that it began to gain traction. A remix of the song, featuring Chicago rapper Chief Keef, was later released.
5. Get It Sexyy
Starting 2024 off strong, Red released a new single, “Get It Sexyy,” on March 15, 2024. As a shock to fans and music listeners, the song was released five days after giving birth to her second child. The St. Louis native wasted no time and released a music video for the track. “Get It Sexyy” is considered an instant hit due to its infectious hook.
According to Billboard, the song earned the femcee her first Top 10 spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and a No. 20 peak position on the Hot 100 chart.
