Normani first stole our hearts as one-fifth of the pop group Fifth Harmony. With the group, she reached great success and spurred many hits. Since the girl group’s separation, Normani has released several singles, including “Waves” (featuring 6lack), but music listeners have been begging the star for an album. Luckily, her fans do not have to wait much longer. Normani has announced her album, “Dopamine!”
On Feb. 21, 2024, Normani took to Instagram to announce her highly-anticipated debut album, “Dopamine,” with an album cover. While a release date is unknown, fans hope to hear the album before the close of 2024.
Normani announced a new song with Gunna ahead of her debut album’s release.
After Normani announced her debut album, fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their excitement. Several weeks after the announcement, one fan asked the singer for an update on the album’s release date. While she did not divulge that information, she shared that an update would be announced at 1:59 p.m. on March 23, 2024.
Little did fans know, this was a hint to the title of her upcoming single. As promised, she announced that her first single from the album, “1:59,” will be released on April 26, 2024. According to Variety, the song will feature Gunna. The singer also provided fans with a snippet of the song on Instagram. There has been no announcement of an accompanying music video at this time.
Normani is taking her solo career to the next level.
Normani was introduced to the masses as a contestant on Season 2 of “The X Factor.” Interestingly, she did not advance as a solo artist. In fact, Normani and her fellow Fifth Harmony members all auditioned solo for the show. However, they were all asked to return and compete as a group, where they finished in third place. The group underwent several name changes from there before sticking with Fifth Harmony.
As a Fifth Harmony member, Normani helped to create many hits, solidifying her status in the industry. Though they were only together for six years, Fifth Harmony was able to make an impression on pop culture. However, Normani’s fans knew she was destined for more. After creating the group’s third album, the girls agreed to take an indefinite hiatus to pursue their individual endeavors.
Since Fifth Harmony’s disbandment, Normani has appeared on the charts with many singles. Her singles “Love Lies” with Khalid and “Dancing With a Stranger” with Sam Smith are Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, her songs “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B hit the Top 20, and “Motivation” landed in the Top 40.
Most recognizably, the “Wild Side” music video was well received. In fact, choreographer Sean Bankhead received praise from fans for his impressive skills. The dance number also morphed into a viral challenge on social media.
Normani took a hiatus due to family health troubles.
The 27-year-old took an unexpected hiatus to tend to her parents’ health issues. Though she remained private then, fans wondered when her debut album would be released.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Normani revealed that her parents were battling cancer. Unfortunately, her father was diagnosed just a few months after her mother fought the disease for a second time.
“This is bigger than the music. It’s bigger than what I’m trying to accomplish,” she told the outlet. “This is life or death. All I wanted to do was be there for them.”
Now that her parents’ health is back on track, the singer is ready to continue making music. Though we do not have a release date yet, fans expect great things from the album, as Normani’s singles have performed exceptionally well on the charts.
