Disney has announced the first look on the new live-action film “Mulan”.
Production on the film is scheduled to begin Monday. The film will star Liu Yifei, who was hired after a yearlong search.
Mulan is based on the 1998 animated film about the folktale of the female Chinese warrior who goes undercover in the Imperial Army by acting as a man and fight against the invading forces.
Filming will be done in New Zealand and China, directed by Niki Caro. Although the film is not going to be a musical there is still no clear reports if there will be absolutely no music from the 1998 film, such as fan’s favorite, “I’ll Make a Man Out of You”.
Directors visited five continents, interviewing nearly 1,000 candidates according to the Hollywood Reporter.
It’s reported that Yifei is 30, and is also called “Fairy Sister” from the Chinese public because of her sweet image. Yifei has been the spokesperson for Dior, Garnier, Tissot, and Pantene, and has appeared in films such as “The Forbidden Kingdom”, “Outcast”, and “Once Upon a Time.”
The cast also includes Jet Li playing the emperor of China, Donnie Yen as Mulan’s mentor, Commander Tung, Gong Li portraying a powerful witch, and Yoson An who will play as a recruit and love interest.
“Mulan” is scheduled to touch down in theaters on March 27, 2020.
