Keke Palmer has received unanimous praise for her performance in the upcoming thriller – Nope! The Emmy Award winner trended on social media just hours after the trailer was released. Fans are already suggesting that her role is worthy of an Oscar, and this cannot be contested. Nope is a Sci-Fi mystery horror about the residents of a lonely gulch in inland California who witness an uncanny and chilling discovery.
The writer and director behind this much-anticipated movie is the Oscar-winning American actor, comedian, and filmmaker Jordan Peele. He is best known for his film and television work in the comedy and horror genres. Some of his brilliant works include the horror films “Get Out” with lead actor Daniel Kaluuya who’s also the lead in Nope, as well as “Us” with Lupita Nyong’o.
The secretive alien invasion film opens with Keke Palmer‘s character, Emerald, sharing the wild history of her family, The Haywoods. They were the only black-owned Horse trainers in Hollywood. The high-energy monologue makes for excellent trailer material. It clues the audience into not only the Haywoods’ rich Hollywood background, but Emerald’s outsized and quite chatty personality. It’s also the same way we meet Emerald in the film, as she comes sweeping into a movie shoot. She’s eager to turn a run-of-the-mill safety meeting (that her brother, the far more reserved OJ, played by Peele film regular, Daniel Kaluuya, can barely get through) into an eye-popping, fast-talking introduction of the highest order.
The kind of performance that Keke gave in the opening set the stage for the rest of her full-force turn in the film. “Keke came in and did, I don’t know, probably about 14 takes. Each one of them really very wildly different, uncuttably so” Peele said in an interview with IndieWire. “Keke’s amazing in this movie,” he said. “Can I just say, so that everyone knows it. It’s been one of the great joys working with her on this movie. Such a big part of it is both of us were pushing ourselves further and sort of making this agreement early that we’re going to go farther than we ever have gone. I would just say, everything you want Keke to be in your head, she’s better. She’s that and more.”
Nope has already won an HCA Award (Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Awards) as the most anticipated film in 2022. Universal will release Nope in movie theaters on Friday, July 22nd, 2022.
