Accredited writer and director Ava DuVernay has been enlisted to bring the story of The Central Park Five to Netflix. She will be in charge of the five part mini-series set to be released in 2019. Along with Ava DuVernay, executive producers will include Oprah Winfrey and her Harpo Films, Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King from Participant Media.
“This [the central park five case] is one of the most talked-about cases of our time, and Ava’s passionate vision and masterful direction will bring the human stories behind the headlines to life in this series,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s vp of original content. now DuVernay will be bringing this iconic case to screens across the world. The series will highlight the behind the scenes happenings of a case that rocked the eighties, nineties, and even the early two thousands. DuVernay has experience in the criminal justice with the Oscar-Nominated Netflix series 13th that was released last year. Fortunately, she can use that experience to make another educating and thrilling series.
DuVernay is also working on her new hit show Queen Sugar, and will be releasing a new movie adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time at Disney. We are anticipating success and admiration on all fronts for DuVernay and her projects.
