When it comes to serving a look, no one does it better than Rihanna. Her effortless ability to always put that s–t on has left us speechless on more than one occasion. The Pisces star celebrated her 36th birthday on Feb. 20, 2024, and with it, she ushered in another year of impeccable style. From her red carpet looks and street-style fits to her iconic pregnancy style, Rihanna proves time and time again that she is the reigning queen of fashion.
We’re taking a trip down memory lane and remembering some of Rihanna’s best fashion moments. In the words of our fave “She may can beat me, but she can’t beat my outfit.”
1. Her 2015 Met Gala look will always be famous.
Lives changed and jaws dropped when Rihanna stepped on the 2015 Met Gala red carpet in a yellow fur-trimmed cape with embroidered scrolls and a massive train. Designer Guo Pei made the Chinese couture, which took her two years to create. This look undoubtedly earned Rihanna the title “The Queen of the Met Gala.” Although her Met Gala looks serve every time, her Guo Pei cape was a moment in fashion history that stopped time.
2. Her 2014 CFDA dress was iconic.
Always the risk taker, Rihanna’s sparkly, sheer Adam Selman dress was a head-turner. Rihanna wore the Swarovski crystal-covered dress to accept the Fashion Icon Award at the 2014 CFDA Awards. The dress was fitting for the occasion, as Rihanna is known for breaking barriers in the fashion industry. The crystals made her shine like a diamond.
3. She rocks denim.
This Rihanna look isn’t discussed enough by fashion mavens. The Tom Ford denim jacket and skirt is a chef’s kiss, and let’s not even get started on the toe cap boots! This ensemble was the perfect outfit for the 2017 Vogue Forces of Fashion conference. It was effortless and chic and delivered a classic Rihanna style.
4. She is the IT Girl.
Rihanna commanded attention at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival in a cream Dior Haute Couture gown. All eyes were on the singer as she walked the red carpet, looking every bit like the fashion icon that she is. She completed the look with a silk taffeta coat and Andy Wolf Eyewear sunglasses.
5. Rihanna is the Queen of monochromatic looks.
No one rocks monochromatic looks better than Rihanna. The singer stunned in this orange mini dress and orange trench coat while out and about in New York in 2020. She finished the look with gold slouchy boots.
6. No one works a red carpet like Rihanna.
Rihanna is a master of working a carpet, no matter the color. For the 2017 “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” premiere in London, she stunned on the blue carpet in a red Giambattista Valli gown that flowed perfectly with her. This red ensemble is surely another Rihanna look that deserves more attention because it is gorgeous.
7. Pregnancy wasn’t going to stop Rihanna from serving a look.
Pregnancy didn’t slow Rihanna down one bit in the fashion department. The singer redefined typical maternity wear and came even harder with her outfit choices. One of our favorite maternity looks from her was a Loewe ensemble with Chanel sunglasses while out in New York City in May 2023. Mixing furs and leathers, this was such a fun and sexy look and showed off the singer’s growing baby bump.
8. Red is her color.
Red is Rihanna’s color, and she proved that at the 2013 Grammy Awards. She walked the red carpet in a beautiful custom Azzedine Alaia gown. It is still one of her best looks to date.
9. Parents night out is a fashionable success.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky stepped out in New York in October 2023 to celebrate Rocky’s 35th birthday. The singer stunned in one of her best street-style looks sporting a Cecile Bahnsen bomber jacket.
10. The Queen of the Met Gala strikes again.
The Queen of the Met Gala returned with a vengeance, donning a custom white Valentino gown in honor of the late Karl Lagerfeld in 2023. The gown was pure perfection. Pregnant with her second child at the time, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky showed up late, but the singer stole the show that night.
Obviously, Rihanna has countless fashion moments. If we were to include them all, this would be a very long article. Rihanna will always be the fashion queen, and we can’t wait to see what looks she pulls off next.
