“She’s a mother now, she should cover up” and “Nobody wants to see all that” are just some of the harsh retorts we’re seeing in response to Rihanna’s maternity wear.
True to her experimental personal style, Rih continues to wear whatever she pleases (and looks amazing while doing it). The star told Vogue “At first I expected some magical change, but really I remain who I am.” And that she does. Prior to her pregnancy announcement, we’d see Rihanna in everything from extravagant gowns to edgy streetwear and belly-baring crop tops. And to this day, we get to see Rihanna in extravagant gowns, edgy streetwear, and belly-baring crop tops with the perfect accessory – a growing baby bump.
Of course, not a day on the internet doesn’t go by without Rihanna being the topic of debate. Many love Rihanna’s daring maternity looks, often referencing a line in Euphoria where Maddy (played by Alexa Demie) states “I wouldn’t wear any of those nasty maternity clothes. I would just be me, plus pregnant.” Many others think Rihanna should “tone it down” and “dress respectably now that she’s a mother”. Since when does motherhood equate to neglecting your personal style?
What’s your take? Love or hate Rihanna’s maternity looks?
I for one absolutely love the looks for the attention to detail, playfulness, and evident comfort they bring Rih. What’s important is women finding comfort in wearing what they please – whether it be a cushy croc or a strappy Alaïa sandal. Plus, I can’t wait to see the coordinating mommy+baby looks!
