Menswear is a blossoming trend that has continued to get better over the past few seasons. We went from shirt dresses to boyfriend blazers to full-on tuxedos for women.
We just cannot keep my eyes off of the pastel suits that have been popping up in my inbox (anyone else feels a splurge coming soon?!). While this trend is exciting, it may be intimidating to some. Read on for three easy steps to experimenting with menswear (and any other fashion trend)!
1. “Borrow” clothes from the men in your life
My favorite shirtdress came from my dad’s closet. My favorite denim dress is a denim button-up from my husband’s closet. My favorite beanie was snagged from my little brother’s closet. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the men in your life you can “borrow” from. Ask your family for menswear that they plan to donate, and watch your wardrobe options open up right before your eyes.
2. Thrift It!
Head to your local thrift store and take a peek at the menswear section. You’ll be surprised by all the styling opportunities! A men’s blazer paired with a coordinating midi skirt, the boxy blazer becomes less ill-fitting and more feminine.
3. Start Small!
This is my biggest advice when it comes to testing out new trends. If you dive right into a trend, you might feel intimidated by it. Try starting small with accessories or shoes. Try out a pair of men’s loafers when you are looking for new flats for work. Or opt for a menswear button-up paired with a belt when you are looking for a dainty dress to throw on. Once you are feeling bold, go for a nice blazer or even a full suit!
