On February 14, 2023, MEFeater held its second annual NYFW galentine show powered by Mielle Organics. This event celebrated the excellence and creativity of Black women in fashion. This year, MEFeater capitalized on the 50th anniversary of hip-hop music in conjunction with Black History Month to highlight New York’s new talent. This theme was important in keeping with MEF’s ethos of music, entertainment, and fashion as its core principles. The Forbes-recognized digital media company brought the show all the way to Brooklyn, the home of some of the most influential female rappers from New York City, the birthplace of rap.
Amongst some of the featured designers at this year’s event were Rupal Banerjee, Pink Lucy, and Devon Milan for Lulu James. Devon also happened to style some of the star performers, including Maiya The Don and special guests Kidd Ken and Dess Dior, who walked the runway for the brand.
Just as important as the designs and garments were to these designers, so was the hair. A little more than the previous year, designers and hairstylists went through delicate processes, paying attention to the hair’s detail. This, of course, would not have been possible without the support of Mielle Organics. Mielle Organics is a hair care and beauty brand that believes healthier ingredients encourage healthier hair and skin.
The runway was filled with different hairstyles that celebrated all kinds of hair in all forms. Mielle Organics’ hair lit up the runway with styles ranging from short to long ponytails to all kinds of designs.
Models from Pink Lucy opened up the runway show, sporting their unique formalwear and rocking hairstyles from beautiful short fros to elegant updos and everything in between.
Ru by Rupal
Ru’s models stepped onto the runway in versatile looks with matching hairstyles. The girls donned wet-hair looks, shortcuts, and braids.
From Dess Dior effortlessly rocking her black and blonde bob to another model sporting beautiful long braids, LuLu James dominated the runway with their vibrant looks and hairstyles.
Monique Rodriguez founded MIELLE in 2014. Her healthy hair care regimen for her tailbone-length hair became somewhat of a craze among her social media followers. The opportunity for MEFEATER to partner with Mielle Organics is a demonstration of the power of genuine collaborations and partnerships. This was a successful and exciting collaboration. The future is definitely female!
