At Brooklyn Studios, a venue with an industrial aesthetic, the space worked perfectly as a blank canvas for the MEFeater’s Galentines New York Fashion Week Show. Using a space in Brooklyn to highlight the work of black artists during Black History Month and celebrate Black women is important to MEFeater’s event. A concrete runway enclosed between white benches with goody bags from the sponsors of the show, Mielle Organics and Zoulette, and a white background with an illuminated sign reading MEFeater filled one area of the space. For pictures, guests had access to a corner in the venue decorated with MEFeater’s magazine covers featuring Jayda Cheaves. A banner hung outside highlighting the sponsorship and collaboration between MEFeater and Mielle Organics. The show opened with the host, Sebastien, wearing an all-white suit with a blue mink shoulder piece with black undertones.
After going over overcapacity at the venue, DJ Noskie kept the crowd lively and entertained with a variety of tracks by artists like Beyonce and Ice Spice. For more entertainment, the show featured special performances by Lola Brooke and Maiya The Don, both captivating the crowd and keeping it jumping throughout the function.
Lola Brooke performed her single, “Don’t Play With It,” with high energy and the crowd ate it up.
Maiya The Don performed her single “Telfy,” and she was styled by Devon Milan, a designer featured in the show, wearing a monochromatic, emerald green look that included a bodysuit with gemstones topped with an emerald green fur coat. These performances signified a celebration of hip-hop, more specifically women in hip-hop, on its 50th anniversary.
Designers for the show were Rupal Banerjee, Pink Lucy, and Devon Milan with LuLu James.
Rupal delicately wrapped the models in fabrics with elements of realism highlighted in the earth tones and soft-fitted, naturally distressed fabrics.

Pink Lucy drenched her models in gowns with glitz and glamour that made them all look like walking gemstones.
Devon Milan for Lulu James wrapped their models in virgin furs that bounced with every step. The fur ranged in hue from natural nude tones and bubbly baby blues to hot pinks and vehement reds. Special guests walking the show included artists Dess Dior and Kidd Kenn.
Artist Kidd Kenn walked the runway for Devon Milan while dressed in a pink bodysuit and a space chrome mini skirt. His fur jacket was cropped at the waist and resembled a bubble coat, colored cotton candy pink and blue. With pink fur boots and a wolf gray tote bag carrying a puppy, Kenn strutted, and the fur bounced accordingly.
Dess Dior commanded the runway in a fur-hooded trench coat with multiple colors. With matching red boots and tights, Dess showcased her physique in a bronze metallic two-piece. In the end, Dess threw the hood over her head and revealed a red heart on the back of the fur trench coat descending the runway.
CEO Gabrielle Amani closed the show wearing a black lacy bodysuit underneath a fitted denim dress with gold accessories to match her gold pumps.

The crowd migrated to the rooftop afterparty, which featured performances by Kidd Kenn and Cleopatra. The night might be a blur, but the show is engraved in the minds of every guest. There’s no better way than to fill the air on love day with fashion, celebrating black women, excellence, and creativity.
