New York Fashion Week is here and it’s only right that MEFeater played a part in the events to bring the excitement back to fashion week! On February 13th, also known as Galentine’s day, we had our first NYFW show. Galentine’s Day is the day before Valentine’s Day where instead of celebrating your love for your significant other, it’s all about your love for your girls! We decided to uplift women in Music, Entertainment, and Fashion, in true MEFeater style. With poppin’ performances from Kali and Kharlee to all the show stopping pieces from designers Ru by Rupal, Broken Land, GenreVaein, and Laurel DeWitt; it’s safe to say the girls did not come to play.
Get Into It
Our hosts, Ziggy and Selyna, started the show off right by walking the runway and warming up the crowd by introducing our performers and designers. Shortly after, Kali came in and gave us what she needed to give while performing “MMM MMM”. Sitting front row, NLE choppa and Aaliyah Jay bobbed their heads and danced along as the music boomed through the speakers. To kickoff the designer showcase, Broken Land came out in true New York form. Most of the pieces consisted of flowing silhouettes in spring pastel metallic colors. The range of the pieces were cohesive and paired well with one another. From the denim to the tailored suits with billowy accents; everything was the perfect mix of streetwear and luxury. Each piece gave the perfect taste of sexy, chic, and fun. Broken Land designer, Jai was all smiles as she walked out with her models at the end of her set. Her clothes are truly a reflection of her and the style she represents: FIERCE.
Following Broken Land, Ru by Rupal entered the stage. With the use of mixed patterns, mesh material, and asymmetrical altering, this collection was hot. Rupal Banerjee, designer of the brand, has a very good eye for what’s trending and easily reaches her audiences. Most of the collection catered to those who aren’t afraid to be bold with their clothing. What captivated people the most, was the fact that her pieces aren’t just for women but, for everyone.
Still Popping
Shortly after Ru by RuPal graced the stage, we got a popping performance from Karlae. And ‘Sheesh’ did she look good! You see what we did there.
Afterwards, GenreVaein debuted the coolest streetwear. With mainly all black and red looks with flecks of embroidery, the long braids everyone wore served effortlessly. It’s everyday wear mixed with edginess. The denim pieces featured were also a big hit. With the hip hop blasting and the models playfully walking and twirling, everyone ate this up.
The last to walk was Laurel Dewitt’s collections, and what a way to close a show. As soon as the first model hit the stage, you could hear the audience was in love with the avant-garde looks. Many of the pieces showcased could definitely be worn at the Met Gala. From the European medieval knight to the high glamour blinged out looks; each piece was stunning and unique. Chains, metals and beauty; Laurel Dewitt ate and left no crumbs.
It’s safe to say that we had a blast at the show and are so grateful for all the work and support that was put into it. Thank you to our sponsors, BCakeNY, Moet&Chandon Champagne, Breakr, and Modern Blk Girl! The designers did an amazing job, the models looked gorgeous, and the crowd was full of energy. If you couldn’t make it, we hope you can come out to the next one!
