As Galentine’s Day approaches, we’re excited to celebrate our modest fashion besties with a stylish outfit featuring red, black, and white. If you’re not already familiar, modest fashion has made a vibrant entrance into the fashion scene and is now a celebrated trend. This trend emphasizes clothing that covers more skin while still being stylish and trendy and caters to those who wish to express their personal style without compromising their values. Fashion shows celebrating modesty are taking place worldwide, including our very own MEFeater Galentines. In 2024, we showcased a modest wear collection from emerging designer Reema Idris for RMA. The Modest Fashion Movement

The roots of this movement within the Western landscape were established several years ago. Starting in 2015, when DKNY became one of the first American brands to introduce collections of hijabs and abayas. Then continuing, in 2016, with Oscar De La Renta and Dolce & Gabbana. Also that year, at London Fashion Week, Indonesian designer Anniesa Hasibuan showcased a collection in which every model wore hijabs. The rise of e-commerce and social media has dramatically influenced this movement. Particularly so because over 50% of the global Muslim population is under 25, driving demand for online fashion.
Street Style Modest Fashion
Street style modest fashion has also become popular. More and more influencers and fashion enthusiasts are popping up, showcasing their creative, modest look interpretations on Instagram and TikTok. In cities around the world, from New York to Dubai, modest fashion street style is celebrated for its diversity and innovation. Fashionistas pair elegant maxi dresses with trendy sneakers or mix traditional garments with contemporary accessories. In so doing, they illustrate the versatility of modest fashion. This trend empowers individuals to express themselves through clothing choices and challenges conventional Western fashion norms. Moreover, it shows that modesty can be synonymous with creativity and fashion-forward trends.
