Makeup trends come and go, but there are some that should stay for good. Makeup is an art, so why not experiment with your canvas (aka your face)? From pastel eyeshadow to bold eye looks, these eight makeup trends deserve a second chance in the beauty world.
1. Super Thin/Overplucked Eyebrows
This look may not be for everyone, but those who can pull it off, do so fabulously. The thin eyebrows look originated in the 1930s and made a revamp in the late 90s to early 2000s. When shaped the right way, super-thin eyebrows can give you a sexy, feminine appeal. If you ever want to stand out in a crowd, the overplucked eyebrow look is the way to go.
2. Blue eyeshadow
Blue eyeshadow is super cute on Black women! A trick for more pigmentation is to apply a white base first and lightly dab (never swipe) the eyeshadow onto the lids. This trend started back in the 80s and has slowly become a hot trend again.
3. Dark lip liner
The dark lip liner (a 90s makeup staple) combined with a clear gloss has always been a favorite. Whether it’s a black, dark brown, or light brown lip pencil, this trend can go with any look. In addition, the clear gloss combo undefeated, a nice nude or light pink lip can create a stunning everyday lip combo. Brands such as NYX, MAC, and Ruby Kisses have great pigmented products.
4. Undereye white eyeliner
The white eyeliner trend originated in the late 1960s. White eyeliner brings out the eyes and also makes them appear slightly larger. It’s a cute finishing touch for a natural but glam look. One of the best white eyeliner pencils is the NYX eyeliner pencil in “Milk”. It’s super pigmented and has an easy applicator for the undereye.
5. E-girl blush look
E-girl (electronic girl) makeup was a hot makeup trend in early 2019. Specifically, the e-girl blush look is an underrated makeup look that should be brought back. Instead of applying blush on just your cheeks, you apply blush over your nose and work your way across. This look can be done as dramatic or as simple as you want it to be.
6. Bold one-eyeshadow look
The one-eyeshadow trend is a cute makeup trend that everyone should try at least once, especially for the Spring and Summertime. This 60s eye look is simple, achievable, and fun! You’ll be the talk of the party with this bold look.
7. Luxe eyeliner
The all-around eyeliner (aka luxe eye) look dates back to the 90s. It consists of a black eyeliner that surrounds the eyes and brings out the natural eye color. This edgy look pairs beautifully with a nude lip.
8. Colorful eyeliner
Colorful eyeliner can be a scary thing to try, but don’t be afraid to take a leap of faith! The colorful eyeliner trend is reported to have made waves in the 1940s, but only for couture (magazine) purposes. You can pair colorful eyeliner with either a bold lip or a nude lip. If you’re a beginner, dark blue, brown, or silver eyeliner are some beginner-friendly colors to try.
