The Break-Up
Queen Bey stings again. On March 23, it was announced that Beyoncé and Adidas had split up, with the statement, “the parties came to a mutual agreement to move in different ways.” Kinda like those married couples that get divorced, but they’re still friendly.
Beyoncé, the most awarded artist in Grammy history, has expressed from the beginning with Ivy Park that she values creative freedom above all things. The split from Adidas gives her the opportunity to create her own path and reinvent IVY PARK in a way that resembles her.
In 2016, Beyoncé launched IVY PARK in a joint venture with Sir Philip Green in collaboration with Top Shop. In 2018, Beyoncé acquired full ownership of IVY PARK. The same year, a creative relationship with Adidas was established. Under Adidas, IVY PARK launched viral campaigns like ‘ICY PARK’ & ‘RODEO PARK.’
The Rebound
In less than 24 hours of the announcement of Beyoncé and Adidas amicable divorce, the Queen graced her fans and the world with a collaboration worthy of her time and stature in society. Beyoncé collaborated with Olivier Rousteing, creative director at Balmain, to bring her Grammy-winning album Renaissance to life.
Beyoncé x Balmain invented Renaissance rightfully as a couture line. Beyoncé graced the cover of Vogue France in one of the pieces, a diamond-studded long sleeve body con gown that covered her head to toe. For accessories, a matching hat with a longer brim in the back curving upward and a shorter brim in the front covered in diamonds as well.
The Beyoncé x Balmain couture collection for Renaissance featured fiery reds, vibrant blues, opulent golds, blush pinks, and energetic patterns in black and white. The gowns were diamond-studded. Chandelier-like fixtures framed the neckline to the waistline and were repurposed as bustle cages. Grand headwear and gold metals mixed in with the pieces added an invaluable element of richness. Metal chest pieces, feathers, tassels, and furs—Beyoncé x Balmain stapled itself into high fashion history.
Beyoncé is due to start her Renaissance World Tour in 47 days, starting in Stockholm, Sweden. This news of the Beyoncé x Balmain collection gets fans excited about the possible outfit arrangements for the tour! What is Queen Bey planning to wear? What other tricks has she got up her glamorous, couture sleeves? Can we expect her to invade the fashion space more regularly?
