Yes, you read the title correctly. Virgil Abloh, beloved haute streetwear designer is about to make his mark on the French high fashion scene.
Abloh will be Louis Vuitton’s first African-American artistic director. However, this does not mean he is a stranger to high fashion. Between his own label and his work with Kanye West’s brand Abloh has been bringing streetwear to the masses for years now. We are interested to see how Abloh mixed his eye for streetwear into the French Luxury culture.
Abloh will be replacing who left Louis V in January to take on the same position at Dior. Abloh plans to move his family to Paris in order to hit the ground running at his new post.
He has big plans for Louis Vuitton, and has been working on a brand manual to ensure his staff is on the same page with his as far as where he plans to take the brand, according to the . “The first thing I am going to do is define new codes. My muse has always been what people actually wear, and I am really excited to make a luxury version of that,” said Abloh in an interview with the Times.
This idea has already been introduced in Louis V with Jones’s collaboration with popular streetwear brand .
Abloh will continue to run OFF-WHITE saying, “it is for the 17-year-old version of myself, whereas Vuitton is for the 37-year-old I am today.” His first collection for Louis Vuitton will feature in Paris men’s fashion week this June.
