SZA just released the visuals for the song “Supermodel” off of her album Ctrl.
The video directed by Nabil, displays modern-day fairytale of love and betrayal. The video starts off with SZA looking at herself in the mirror confronting her insecurities. SZA is then being led down a path by fairies, with her love interest in the distant taunting her. She then ends up on a playground where she is shooting fireworks through fingertips at her love interest. With the support of children, SZA displays how the tormentor becomes tormented. This connects with the song message of self-acceptance and dealing with betrayal. Which is exemplified in the song chorus, singing:
“Leave me lonely for prettier women
You know I need too much attention for s*** like that
You know you wrong for s*** like that
I could be your supermodel if you believe
if you see it in me, see it in me
I don’t see myself”
The video comes a day after the track was featured on the latest episode of HBO’s Insecure.
