Prioritizing your health is of the utmost importance. That said, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, showcases that your health status can go left at any time. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old suffered a stroke in January 2024.
On Jan. 18, 2024, Broadus took to social media to share the news of her medical emergency.
“I had a severe stroke this [morning],” she shared in an Instagram Story via HuffPost. “I started breaking down and crying when they told me.”
After spending days in the hospital, Broadus shared an update that she was back home and doing better. She provided an update on Instagram in a series of posts.
“Honey, I’m home,” the 24-year-old captioned a post that showed photos of her smiling while lying in bed.
She had warning signs before her stroke.
The day before the stroke occurred, Broadus revealed that she had warning signs. Unfortunately, the health signs that she was unaware of were part of a much larger problem.
On Jan. 29, 2024, Broadus revealed in an Instagram story, per People magazine, that her symptoms before the stroke included a “really bad headache pain” on the right side of her head, blurry vision, fatigue, and nausea. In addition, her kidneys were also not in good shape.
“Listen to your body, for real,” she wrote on Instagram via People. “I’m glad I’m still here and able to tell my story.”
Broadus also revealed that her high blood pressure caused an additional stroke. Since returning home, Broadus has been consistently logging her levels every day.
There are other warning signs of a stroke to look out for.
Unfortunately, anyone can suffer from a stroke at any time. Luckily, there are multiple ways to identify a stroke.
According to Health Central, one way to identify if you or someone you know is having a stroke is to focus on the first three letters of the word “STR.” S stands for smile. Having trouble smiling is a telltale sign of a stroke. T stands for talk. Speaking an incoherent sentence is another sign that you’re having a stroke. Last but not least, R stands for raising both arms. If you or someone you know can’t raise both arms, this could be a sign of a stroke.
Unfortunately, Cori Broadus is no stranger to health issues.
In case you’ve been out of the loop, Broadus was diagnosed with lupus at six years old. In a September 2022 interview with ESSENCE, Broadus shared that her diagnosis led to her experiencing hair loss during her childhood days.
“Lupus is a disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your tissues and organs (autoimmune disease),” per Mayo Clinic. “Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems — including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs.”
The 24-year-old has taken medication all her life and felt that she was getting dependent on them. She would take between 10 to 12 pills every day. In September 2023, Broadus revealed to People that she had stopped taking her medication and had adopted a more natural approach.
“I stopped taking all of my medications like five months ago,” she told the publication. “I’m just doing everything naturally, all types of herbs, sea moss, teas. I started working out, drinking lots of water. So now I think my body’s like, OK, this is the new program, and she’s getting used to it.”
Snoop Dogg and his wife are both relieved at their daughter’s recovery.
As a parent, it’s difficult to watch your child deal with a health scare. However, it’s important to remain positive through it all. In a January 2024 People Magazine interview, Snoop shared that the situation put life into perspective for him.
As for Snoop’s wife and Broadus’s mom, Shanté Broadus, she shared her relief online via a Jan. 24, 2024, Instagram post.
“To the strongest person I know, my baby. My warrior,” Shanté wrote. “I’m honored God chose me to be a vessel to bring you into the world. My princess 👑 💜 💜.”
It’s vital to take care of your body no matter your age. Broadus is living proof that even when you’re young, life-threatening conditions can still become a reality. We continue to wish Broadus a healthy and speedy recovery.
