SIRA “BBDC”
To accompany the anthem we didn’t know we needed, SIRA has recently dropped the visual for her single, “BBDC”. SIRA’s experience behind the screen as a video and content producer is evident in production of the “BBDC” video. Now, she is stepping into the spotlight as an artist. Much like the albums spread on the floor in the video’s opening scene, the Harlemite’s soft sound is a blend of R&B and blues with sprinkles of Caribbean colloquialisms. Bad B****** Don’t Cry, better known as “BBDC”, is “an ode to the bad bitch who cried but never forgot who she was”. While reminding women it is okay to be vulnerable, the song also reminds women of their worth. There is so much to accomplish when you aren’t wallowing in the sadness. As “bad b****** don’t cry we gon’ be fine” repeats in the chorus like a mantra, this song is the perfect play for when you need to be your own hypeman.
On the upbeat track backed by 808s, SIRA sings of uplifting her girls when “it’s hard to see the light”. The video is cast with different iterations of beautiful black women. And we see the importance of community on camera as well as behind the scenes. No stranger to collaborating with local artists, SIRA tagged Johnny Nelson, Lorena Pipenco, Create Freedom NYC, SUNNY, Destroyer of Worlds, and more for the uptown extravagance. All of the looks seen in the video were styled by Alia Ssemakula.

Because every baddie needs a reminder sometimes.
The video for BBDC, produced by an all-black team and directed by Raven Irabor and SIRA, can serve as a portfolio of SIRA’s talents. She plays with clips from digital and film cameras, different angles, and outfit changes. The multi-hyphenate brings her mixed media talents to the screen with video collaging. She reimagines everything from tear drops as crystals to ramen noodles as gold chains. The 3-minute video set in New York City is just fun. There’s beauty in vulnerability and beauty in empowerment. From her orange tresses flowing out of a moving car to listening to music alone in her apartment, SIRA shows the freedom in embracing it all.
With SIRA’s many hats, from filmmaker to singer,(and all of them fashion forward) we can’t wait to see what’s next. Check out the video for “BBDC” below.
