Why is it so hard to leave a relationship when both people know it’s going nowhere? Nothing is worse than being in an unfulfilling relationship when you could so easily be in a healthy one, and GoGo Morrow explains this to her lover in her debut single, “In The Way”.
Originally from Philly, GoGo Morrow made her name in the music industry singing backup for names like Ye, Lady Gaga, and Wiz Khalifa. Her voice has been heard in venues like the Roots Picnic and Made In America. Now located in L.A, the R&B singer is bringing her talents to centerstage with a co sign from Kenya Barris. The multimedia icon signed Morrow to Khalabo Music, his joint venture with Interscope Records.
How you introduce me as just the homie, i caught that/ but when we’re alone you be all up on me/how bout that

“In the Way” is Morrow’s debut single and she released an accompanying video, a vignette chronicling a couple’s road trip. Over a sample of 90’s girl group Brownstone’s “If You Love Me”, Morrow sings of a passerby relationship. It is the kind of relationship that acts as a stepping stone towards a better one. The first half of the song is the reflection of the relationship. Everything is stagnant, both parties are settling, and the relationship is only thriving off the thought of someone else taking their place.
You love me when its convenient/ can never tell when you mean it

At the 1:36 timestamp, GoGo switches sentiments and picks up the pace with the introduction of percussion. The contemplative tone, singing over mainly soft guitar chords, quickly becomes a warning. Instead of reflection, we hear acceptance of the situation and plans of moving on. If her partner was in the way of what she needs, Morrow warns there are other options available.
