Miss South Africa 2021, Lalela Mswane, has won the Miss Supranational 2022 title! Miss Supranational 2022 was the 13th edition of the Miss Supranational pageant, held on Friday, July 15th, 2022, at Strzelecki Park Amphitheater in Nowy Sącz, Poland.
Lalela Mswane has embodied confidence, poise, and leadership throughout her Miss SA reign. In December 2021, months after being crowned Miss South Africa, she went on to compete for the Miss Universe title. The pageant was held in Israel. Despite a public outcry for the country to boycott the pageant, Lalela competed and won the second runner-up.
In the top five final question-and-answer sessions, when asked why people fear losing things they don’t even have, Mswane spoke about the importance of having an attitude of gratitude.
“I used to suffer from losing things that I don’t have. It stems from fear of perfection or pressures of the world and trying to seek the happiness that you don’t have… An attitude of gratitude should be something that we instill every day.”
Lalela Mswane was crowned by Miss Supranational 2021 title holder, Chanique Rabe from Namibia. This marks a huge milestone. Lalela became the very first black Miss Supranational and the first Miss South Africa to ever bring the title home.
South Africans took to social media following her win to share their joy over her win. There is nothing quite like a black woman claiming her power, this is a moment for queen Lalela!
