You may know actor and screenwriter Michaela Coel from Netflix’s popular hit show, Chewing Gum. The British star recently told the public that there will not be a third season because of the persistent stress. Unbeknownst to many, she was the only writer on the show, which she herself admits is ridiculous. She told her fans that she will proceed to even better endeavors.
Now it appears Coel is ready to leave to “awkward, sexually deprived girl” schtick. She seems to be ready for a more dramatic role in her newest project, Been So Long. It is a musical that encapsulates the life of a single mother (Coel) who meets an interesting man (Arinzé Kene) in London. The film is based on a play by Che Walker and Artur Darvill. For the multi-talented Michaela Coel, this appears to be strictly an acting role.
Screen Daily claimed the Netflix deal was a “multi-million dollar” one, so it’s good to see Coel racking up her deserved funds. The film is currently in post-production. With that said, it is unclear when the film will be released.
