Louis Vuitton is the talk of the fashion streets after presenting their Spring/Summer 2023 Menswear show at the Louvre in Paris. Surprise performances from FAMU’s incomparable Marching 100 band and rap superstar, Kendrick Lamar caught the eye of not only fashion enthusiasts, but music enthusiasts as well.
Injections of the culture are reflected in not only the music, but also the designs and props. Models donned durags, doobies, racecar-style jackets, and even huge boombox speakers.
The colorful collection debuted within a playful backdrop, aptly named the Rainbow Playground (inspired by the Wizard of Oz’s yellow brick road).
“Like a magnified playground, a giant children’s toy racetrack erected in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre becomes a yellow brick road for the imagination: an evolutionary path for the mind where childlike fantasies come to life.”
The collection is meant to inspire collective creativity, to spark the imagination in order to heal, regenerate, and uplift. And uplift it did! Similar to LV’s SS22 collection, the color scheme is full of vibrance and playfulness. Patchwork, cartoon motifs, and even paper airplanes adorn the pieces adding whimsy to the expertly tailored garments.
