Lizzo has delivered powerful anthems time and time again, advocating for women’s empowerment and body positivity in her lyrics. The Texas native and three-time Grammy Award-winning singer, rapper, and flutist has continued to push boundaries with her music. She has helped to redefine the standards of what it means to look and sound like a pop star in her own right. Her ability to shake the foundation has produced some of Lizzo’s best songs.
Lizzo captivates her listeners and transports them to a world filled with joy and positivity. From bangers such as “Good as H–l” to her “Barbie” movie soundtrack hit “Pink,” the singer is an expert at making music for women to feel comfortable in their skin. The singer recently celebrated her 36th birthday on April 27, 2024, and will undoubtedly be ushering in a new era of girl-powered bops for the summer. Now, we are counting down five of Lizzo’s best songs that are still heavy in rotation on our playlists.
1. Good As H–l (2016)
Lizzo’s “Good As H–” is arguably one of her most recognized singles. The song was written for the soundtrack of the 2016 film “Barbershop: The Next Cut.” The artist later released the song on March 8, 2016, as the lead single from her debut EP, “Coconut Oil.” Although the song wasn’t a massive hit when it first dropped, it gained traction when she performed it at the 2019 MTV VMAs. The song was also featured on various TV shows, including the Season 5 finale of “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” in 2016. In addition, the remix with Ariana Grande was released on Oct. 25, 2019, three years after the original release.
2. About Damn Time (2022)
A milestone hit for the artist, Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” was played everywhere you went. From various radio stations to clothing stores, you couldn’t escape the catchy song. It served as Lizzo’s second U.S. No. 1 hit, earning her a 2023 Grammy Award for Record of the Year. The song speaks to the importance of celebration and was the final track recorded on Lizzo’s fourth studio album, “Special.” Fans have definitely solidified the track as one of Lizzo’s best songs.
“I think life had thrown some major traumas and hard experiences at us, especially globally these last few years,” Lizzo said via Dig. “I wanted to write a song that allowed us to take a moment and celebrate our survival, and celebrate how far we’ve come.”
3. Rumors Ft. Cardi B (2021)
The Texas native teamed up with The Bronx spitfire Cardi B to deliver a summer hit. From the start, Lizzo has wanted to work with Cardi, and when she finally got the chance, she took it. Unfortunately, with fame comes rumors, and Lizzo has faced intense scrutiny since she stepped into the spotlight.
The upbeat diss track addressed every rumor, and adding Cardi B to the mix was the perfect touch. The ladies then teamed up for a visually appealing Grecian-style music video to accompany the track. The hard-hitting lyrics and punchlines make this one of Lizzo’s best songs.
4. Juice (2019)
Undoubtedly one of Lizzo’s best songs from her third album, “Cuz I Love You,” “Juice” is a fun and carefree bop inspired by funk-pop, hip-hop, and R&B sounds. Like many others, this song speaks to the importance of self-love and knowing one’s worth.
5. Truth Hurts (2017)
We can’t have a list of Lizzo’s best songs without the hit “Truth Hurts.” The artist dropped “Truth Hurts” in 2017, contributing to the widespread success of her career. Two years later, the song was re-released and became a viral sensation on TikTok. “Truth Hurts” spent several weeks as the No. 1 song in the country. In addition, Lizzo and DaBaby released a remix of the track in August 2019, which received tons of radio play.
Lizzo has made it known that she can make a hit. Years into her career, the Detroit native is still pushing the boundaries and doing what she wants to do, and we love it!
