Kendrick has finally released the visual for his single “DNA” and I just have one word for it….WHOA.
I had seen the clips on twitter of Don Cheadle rapping, which we’ll get to later, and I had heard the song, but nothing prepared me for this video. Kendrick can do no wrong in my book. His rhymes are solid, his beats are great, but I am a real stickler when it comes to the videos. So, in the rarest of rarities I am giving this video a 10/10.
Before the twitter hounds grill me, hear me out.
The video for “DNA” is so simple, yet so complex. K-dot could have easily did what today’s rappers do and go all out for a video, but he didn’t and as a fan I appreciate that. I for one am tired of seeing chains, mansions, and fancy cars all the time.
My final point can be summed up in two words. Don. Cheadle. Usually, I find cameos corny and I automatically characterize the rapper who uses them as a cornball, but this was different. There wasn’t a random actor smiling or doing a slow bop/nod to the camera. Don Cheadle was utilized as the talent that he is.
Overall, I was super pleased with the video and can’t wait what’s next for Kendrick.
