After a very public spat and breakup, the City Girls have officially ended. However, this is not the last time we will see the beloved JT and Yung Miami, aka Caresha. Although the two rappers were able to reconcile, JT has already hit the booth and recorded her first solo project, “City Cinderella.”
The rapstress released her debut solo mixtape on July 19, 2024, and many fans are impressed with the project. Before the release of “City Cinderella,” JT released her single, “Okay.” The song was an instant hit on social media, causing high anticipation for a project from the former City Girls rapper.
In addition to the mixtape, JT released “JT: The Making of ‘City Cinderella.'” The documentary follows the femcee as she embarks on leaving the rap group and pursuing a solo career. The nearly 23-minute video details her time in prison while the City Girls had a breakthrough, her and Caresha deciding to go their separate ways, and the process of making “City Cinderella.”
JT finds a way to connect with fans while promoting her new mixtape.
Although many people have been speculating about the City Girls’ breakup for a while, it did not stop JT from announcing her first solo project. She first announced a small tour that began on March 23, 2024. On the second day of the tour, she officially announced that she would soon release a new mixtape.
Towards the end of the tour, JT teased her song, “Okay,” on social media, giving fans a sneak peek of what her mixtape will sound like. After the tour ended on April 17, 2024, the rapper released the full version of “Okay” on all streaming platforms. She later followed up with a remix to the song, featuring Atlanta rapper Jeezy.
In addition to promoting the album with a single and tour, the rapper also held watch parties for her documentary. However, the “No Bars” rapper clarified that it is not an album, just a mixtape.
“City Cinderella” is definitely a mixtape,” she told Paper magazine. “People work on their albums for a year; albums are just different. So “City Cinderella” is not my first album, being that I made this project so damn fast. I had to create this project throughout the tour and moving around, so I didn’t have time to really nurture and doctor it. This is just something that I’m putting out with my pure instincts.”
On July 9, 2024, the rapper announced her first solo tour, the “City Cinderella Tour.”
Social media reacts to the release of “City Cinderella.”
JT’s “City Cinderella has received favorable reviews from social media users. Some City Girls fans doubted the femcee’s ability to make music without her former partner, Yung Miami. On X, formerly known as Twitter, a fan stated that JT can rap, but they were skeptical about whether she could sound interesting by herself.
Although many fans were unsure what to expect, listeners were seemingly satisfied with the project. One X user stated that they were pleasantly surprised with the variety of songs JT presented.
According to several other users, songs like “Uncle Al,” “Swag,” and “Lemon Pepper” are standouts on the project.
