Jaden Smith stars in African-American led Anime ‘Neo Yokio’ on Netflix

Jaden Smith is starring in a new African American-led anime on Netflix as the character Kaz Kaan, a “magistocrat” in the futuristic city of Neo Yokio.

According to Deadline, Neo Yokio is created by Ezra Koenig of the band Vampire Weekend.

In this fictional world, the only people who are allowed to use magic are the rich and powerful, which means that Kaz has to take time away from his life of luxury to fight demons and protect the city.

Along with his robotic sidekick (voiced by Jude Law), Kaz will then have to overcome his own indolence as well as the magical threats that crop up as he tries to follow his “sacred duty” to protect the city.

He’s drawn into a new world by an ex-fashion blogger and realizes there is more to Neo Yokio than what meets the eye, and this will make him question everything he knows about the city.

Willow Smith and Amandla Stenberg are also voicing characters in smaller roles.

The 6-episode first season premieres on Netflix on September 22.
