Another week has passed, and artists Alex Isley, Rema, Koffee, and Buddy have all released new albums. These albums are a wonderful blend of neo soul, afrobeats, reggae, and hip hop, and they’re excellent for bringing in the new season. Prepare to listen to these endlessly!
Alex Isley: Marigold
Alex Isley released her album Marigold, in collaboration with Jack Dine. This is Isley’s first full-length album since 2015’s Luxury. Her lovely neo soul melodies will take you on a voyage from beginning to end on this nine-track album. Songs like “On & On” (feat. Bas) and “105” are a breath of fresh RnB air; she conjures up imagery in your head without even releasing a video. This album is truly a treat.
Rema: Rave & Roses
Rema, a Nigerian artist, just released his first album, Rave & Roses. Since his self-titled EP was released in 2019, fans have been able to get a sample of Rema’s sound. He adds a unique touch to his music as an afrobeats performer, and this album exemplifies that. Reggaeton, RnB, and synthpop are all featured on this 16-track album. Rema’s album, which is a testament to his hybrid approach to music and creative penmanship, features Chris Brown, Aj Tracey, 6LACK, and Yseult.
With his first release in four years, buddy leaves no crumbs with Superghetto. Buddy continues to make terrific music that is authentic to the West Coast feel with this ten-track album. With features from Tinashe, T-Pain, and Ari Lennox, this latest project is definitely high-quality. As a great lyricist, Buddy gives a glimpse into his life and activities he engages in on a daily basis. This is an excellent piece that covers everything from dance music to sensitive topics like racism.
If you liked Koffee’s single “Pull Up”, you’ll love her debut album. This album is vibrant, lively, and full of hope. Gifted takes on a reggae sound similar to Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, or even Bob Marley. While being true to her Jamaican roots, Koffee is proven to be a rising sensation. This 10-song project covers issues such as love, societal ills, and reaching your full potential. Once again, this is a positive record that will be played for many years.
