British Vogue broke new ground by being the first major fashion publication to appoint a non white male as editor-in-chief. Ghanaian-born, Britain-raised, Edward Enninful will be succeeding Alexandra Shulman, who resigned as editor-in-chief in January after holding the position for 25 years prior.
Enninful is currently the creative and fashion director of America’s W magazine. This will be his debut as an editor-in-chief. However, his success at W, as a model, and businessman in general lends to great anticipation as we takes the helm of beloved British Vogue. Enninful will be taking control August first of this year.
After being under the same leadership for a quarter of a century British Vogue was in in need of a refresher. Especially in a time where publication is shifting quickly to the digital world which has drastically altered magazine audiences. The inclusion of Enninful to the Vogue team would not be the same without some celebrity guest. Enninful will be freshening up the magazines content with contributing editors like Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and Steve McQueen. Also, he enlisted Grace Coddington as a contributor. This trendy, fashion savvy, intelligent staff is a great foundation for Enninful to build upon. We cannot wait to see what he will do with one of the world’s most revered publications. August first can’t come fast enough.
