As unique double minorities, Black women have an experience that can be difficult to navigate. Unfortunately, there are few spaces for Black women to comfortably talk about their experiences, triumphs, and wisdom — until now.
Ambi Skincare recently launched its Ambi Skin Wisdom series on Dec. 12, 2023. Recognizing the plight of the Black woman, Ambi believes open dialogue is pertinent when voicing concerns and connecting with others. The panel focuses on “generational skin regimes and the profound influence of diet and wellness on skin health.”
The series opens with a panel discussion with Black women leaders in lifestyle influence, media, and entertainment. Kéla Walker, Christina Granville, and Angelique Miles provide thought-provoking commentary on several topics important to the lifestyles of Black women.
The Ambi Skin Wisdom Panel is a space for Black women to share knowledge about beauty practices.
During the Ambi Skin Wisdom series panel hosted by Africa Miranda, the women discussed the skincare practices they saw their mothers and grandmothers partake in. All of them agreed that they had come a long way since then. Walker pointed out that she even educates her mom on proper skincare routines.
“It’s so funny because I feel like I’m the one that’s like, ‘Mom, you need an eye cream serum. You need to do it in layers, OK? You go from light to heaviest,'” said Walker. “I’m imparting the wisdom now to my mom and my younger sister.”
The panel members also shared skincare tips. Granville, a former basketball player, spoke about the importance of sunscreen.
With the other women in agreement, she stated, “My best advice would be to please get you some SPF 130.”
Miles added: And not just wear sunscreen, but reapply your sunscreen every two hours. If you’re not going to reapply it, you might as well not wear it. They have powders now; they have sprays.”
If you’ve been out of the loop, sunscreen is an essential that protects skin from UV rays. Failure to use sunscreen can “lead to sunburn, aging, and skin cancer,” per the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
The influencers also spoke of wellness and how it can affect the health of your skin. Along with exercise, diet is paramount when considering any skin issues you may experience. This statement rings true, especially for women over the age of 50. Miles spoke to this sentiment personally.
“Nutrition becomes all the more important,” Miles pointed out. “I can’t just work out. I have to eat right and work out. I can work out until the cows come home, but if I don’t eat right, it doesn’t show up on my body.”
Generations of Black women are smitten with Ambi.
While the panelists come from different walks of life, they all share a common thread. When there were no other products available, Ambi filled the void. Ambi is in a league of its own and has served women of color for over 55 years.
There is no better panel to hold conversations about the Black beauty experience — from generational lessons to newfound discoveries — than Ambi’s Skin Wisdom Series. This discussion is just the first installment of many, as Ambi plans to host more talks soon.
