Afro Nation is boasted as Afrobeats’ biggest musical festival in the entire world – however, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, Amapiano, and Afrohouse are also featured. The 2022 Afro Nation musical festival took place at Praia Da Rocha beach in Portimão, Portugal – one of the most beautiful beaches in the world this past weekend from July 1st to July 3rd. The lineup was filled with several African artists, with a few African American singers here and there to spice up the event even more. Over 50 artists from all over Africa and America performed at this year’s event. There hasn’t been an Afro Nation music festival in over 2 years, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, so the vibe was everything!
Lighting the stage up were Grammy Award winners Megan Thee Stallion, Burna Boy, and Chris Brown. Nigerian duo P Square was also amongst the performers. Recent BET winner for best collaboration for his song – Essence, Wizkid also made an appearance. He shared stages with his fellow Nigerian Davido, Jamaican singer – Shenseea, and Diamond Platinumz. Diamond so happens to be the most subscribed African Artist on YouTube.
Amapiano to the world!
South Africa really showed up and out throughout all three days of the festival. SA’s DJs such as DBN Gogo, Uncle Waffles, and Major League DJz brought their talents to Praia Da Rocha Beach. Alongside Amapiano stars Focalistic, and the 2022 Forbes 30 under 30 artist – Musa Keys. Other artists who performed include Osama producer and Dj – Zakes Bantwini, Kamo Mphela, Vigro Deep, Young Stunna, Kabza De Small, and Dj Maphorisa. These artists spread the Amapiano sovereignty across the globe. This is the first international venue to have so many from the genre perform.
If there’s one thing for sure, it’s that music is universal. The bond that it creates between people is immeasurable. Afro Nation music festival gathered artists from all walks of life and celebrated their unique crafts. This gave people a glimpse of summer, and hope after a long period of banned social gatherings. Thanks to music festivals like these, people can dance again. But mostly, artists can nurture their growth on such huge stages.
