TV Show Reboots Airing In 2022

2022 is proving to be the year of reboots and revivals with every streaming service launching their own reboot of fan-favorite tv shows. From HBOMax rebooting the iconic Sex and the City with its revival series And Just Like That to the OG Gossip Girl, getting a second run. Overall, it doesn’t seem like reboots are ending anytime soon. Here are our must-watch reboots for the year.

Bel-Air

Bel-Air is a modern-day reimagining of the 1990s beloved sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Set in modern-day America, Bel-Air is a new dramatic take on Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. Bel-Air features a new cast playing the roles of the original characters: Jabari Banks as Will Smith, Coco Jones as Hilary Banks, and Olly Sholotan as Carlton Banks.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder

The Proud Family is back with its revival series The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. With a similar concept to the original series, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, follows Penny Proud, a 14-year-old girl, and her family as they navigate their lives in the 2020s. The original voice cast of The Proud Family is returning with Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Jo Marie Payton as Suga Mama, and more.

The series is making leaps with its first gender non-conforming character Michael Collins (voiced by EJ Johnson). Additionally, we see the show’s first gay couple Randall Leibowitz-Jenkins (Billy Porter) and Barry Leibowitz-Jenkins (Zachary Quinto). Keke Palmer plays the role of Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins their adoptive daughter interested in social justice.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will feature massive megastars like Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Normani, and Chance The Rapper amongst the list.

How I Met Your Father

How I Met Your Father is a gender-bent reboot of the classic sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Set in the year 2050, older Sophie (Kim Cattrall) tells her son the story of how she met his father. In the present day 2022, a young Sophie (Hilary Duff) navigates life in NYC with her close-knit group of friends all figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

How I Met Your Father is available for streaming Tuesdays on Hulu.

Pretty Little Liars: Orginal Sin

Developed and written by Riverdale show creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Pretty Little Liars: Orginal Sin is a reboot of the original teen drama series. In an interview with Deadline, the longline reads “A series of tragic events that almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Twenty years later in the present day, a new group of liars find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant. Forced to pay for the secrets their parents committed two decades ago as well as their own”.
