In 2018, women have been making their presence known. From Issa Rae being the first female to host the CFDA Awards in years, and Cardi B’s stellar track record for 2017, it’s obvious: Women are on a roll.
About Alus
Recording artist Alus is the newest woman to add to the extensive list of successful women.
“I consider myself to be a pop artist,” the 24-year-old explained. “Growing up I gained my inspiration from the greats: Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Billy Holiday – all of the R&B Divas.”
Along with her love for celebrated musical talents, Alus has always had a love for singing.
“I was always around music. My grandma played the violin and actually trained with Frank Sinatra, The Rat Pack – you know, the classics.” she reminisces. “I was always humming and singing melodies. When I was ten years old I received my own guitar and taught myself how to play; eventually, I started to write my own songs.”
The Female Aladdin
Known for her Youtube covers of popular songs, Alus was able to build a brand and gain attention musically. Some of her covers include God’s Plan by Drake, and Finesse by Bruno Mars. Gaining the attention and love of her #AlusArmy, Alus made the wise decision to use her platform to empower and encourage women.
“This song was about women empowerment,” she explained. “The lyrics to the original song were ‘I’m so fly like Aladdin’ and Aladdin was a man but I felt that way too. I believe in myself and that’s what this song is about – believing in yourself.”
Alus hopes to inspire women to embrace themselves and to ultimately diminish the feeling of insecurity and doubt.
“This is to teach women to be confident in themselves,” she explained. “I want them to know that they are beautiful for who they are, and to be self-assured in who they are as a woman.”
What’s Next?
In addition to empowering women, we can expect more music, more interaction and more live shows from Alus.
“I want to do more live music for the Alus Army,” she cooed. “My goal is to establish a more intimate connection with them. I also want to thank them for being patient, supportive and for always sticking with me.”
