A name that you hear and know all about is Marsai Martin. Marsai Martin does a lot more than acting and making us laugh on television. Marsai is a young creative ready to take charge of the entertainment world and hold it in her hands.
Martin was born on August 14, 2004, in Plano, Texas. Before Martin became an actress, she had a pictorial career. Using photos from her portfolio, Marsai was presented to talent agencies and she landed her first commercial gig. Later in 2013, she and her family moved so her acting career could begin. Not only is Martin an actress but she’s also a producer.
Her Career Taking Off
Martin’s acting career took off at the young age of five. As she started to get older, she started to book different and more roles. In the year of 2014, Martin booked the role of Diane Johnson on the hit television show Black-ish. Black-ish is a relatable sitcom about an African American family and the trials and tribulations they face as individuals, a family, and as African Americans.
While filming for Black-ish, Martin became a producer at the age of 13 for the film “Nina”. The film gave an overview of the life of singer & activist, Nina Simone. In 2019, Martin signed a production deal with Universal Studios making her the youngest person to get a deal at any kind of studio.
Of course, producing for films is something that is instilled in Martin so why stop there? Martin produced the film “Little” alongside actresses, Issa Rae and Regina Hall. Martin proposed the idea and thus the movie Little was born.
Being recognized for your work is always great, especially to be recognized for something you worked hard for, and it shows. Martin has won many awards from The BET Awards and The NAACP Awards including the awards: “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series” & “Outstanding Performance by a Youth.”
Marsai Now
Although ‘Black-ish’ has ended, Martin is booked and busy. Martin is going to produce the upcoming T.V. show ‘Saturdays,’ a comedy on Disney Channel. Not only will Martin be going from producing movies to T.V. shows, but she’s also going to star in a podcast adaptation of the YA Novel, ‘Free to Fall,’ for an audio company. The young icon in the making will also join Kelly Rowland, Omari Hardwick, and Rome Flynn in upcoming Paramount+ film ‘Fantasy Football.’ Martin will play 16-year-old Callie A. Coleman who finds out that her professional football-playing father can be controlled by EA Sports popular Madden NFL game. Martin has also ventured into the world of beauty by creating her own line of press on nails, Mari by Marsai. The beautiful and affordable line also features nail accessories.
We know that Martin is going to keep applying pressure with her career, supporting Black men and women, and constantly enlightening young minds just like hers.
