As the MEFeater team and I walked in the Gallery on November 8, 2014, we were pleasantly confused. To the naked eye, walking in the Art show seemed more like a party rather than an “art” gallery. The free liquor was flowing, Travis Scott’s Skyfall featuring Young Thug was blasting and rather than looking at the photos on the very white walls, on-goers were bunched together in different cliques laughing and loudly talking.
“This is not……. what was expected,” said Justine, MEFeater’s head videographer, in awe. “I thought it would be way more stuffy, but this I like.”
As Justine made her way through the massive crowd, I looked around. The one day photo show, shot by New York native, Michael “Snapps” Knapp featured pictures of Hip Hop’s very current rappers and figures. Personal favorites included Kendrick Lamar, Asap Rocky, Asap Ferg and Childish Gambino. While the on-goers enjoyed the scenery, the photographer/artist walked around the gallery shaking hands and saying thanks for coming to everyone. His humility was heart warming. However, the biggest surprise of the night, was seeing a glimpse of Texas rapper, Travis Scott. He entered the gallery unnoticed for a few minutes then left when fans started to “realize” he was among their presence. Scott’s brief appearance at the show symbolized Micheal “Snapps” Knapp’s raise to popularity quick, but exciting!
