Jhene Aiko has had us in our feelings since her debut in 2014. Her three solo studio albums have been stamped as R&B classics as she taps into feminine desires through her music. After lending her vocals to several B2K tracks in the early to mid-2000s, she set out to release her debut album in 2003. Unfortunately, the project was never released. Aiko returned to the scene in 2011 with the mixtape “Sailing Souls.” From there, Aiko slowly became one of neo-soul and R&B’s most treasured talents.
Along with being a singer, Aiko has been known for her eclectic and fairy-like personal style. Often utilizing pieces that are flowy and representative of nature, she has taken on a hippy point of view. She takes hippy to a new level and puts a twist of baddie into everything she wears.
The 36-year-old, who celebrated a birthday on March 16, 2024, has inspired fashion girlies everywhere to try something new and feel confident while doing it! In honor of her birthday, here are five of Aiko’s best fashion looks!
1. Tomboy-chic fits are always a win!
Some of Aiko’s best looks come from her frequent live performances. In 2018, she performed at Chene Park in Detroit, Mich., for a concert with Ro James. She sported a long coat that resembled a rain jacket. She paired the coat with a cut-out tank top, baggy sweatpants, and platform sneakers.
Although it is relatively simple, it is the perfect outfit for Aiko. The calm colors match the plants surrounding her and honor her nature-focused style.
2. An elevated frilly look.
Setting aside her typical fairy fashion, Aiko channeled ’50s glam while attending a makeup launch in 2019. She wore a Black ruffled dress with just enough sheerness for a sexy flair. She paired the dress with close-toed black pumps, presumably letting the dress speak for itself. The combination of her barely tamed curls, red lipstick, and innocent demeanor seamlessly transformed the ensemble from frilly and cute to grown woman-chic. This is one of Aiko’s best fashion looks.
3. Ethereal fashion looks are always in Aiko’s wheelhouse.
In 2021, the mother of two collaborated with Swae Lee for “In the Dark.” The song was featured in Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” She graced the red carpet at the L.A. premiere in a one-of-a-kind dress. Pulling from her repertoire of nature-inspired looks, she selected this beautiful piece from Iris van Herpen.
The dress hugs her body with embroidery details and pleats throughout. Its futuristic elements represent the movie’s theme and perfectly complement her style. The dress serves up all of the drama, so pairing it with simple hair and accessories is only fair.
4. Form-fitting ensembles always does the singer’s body justice.
In 2022, Aiko blessed the Super Bowl with her presence and ethereal voice. She stepped outside the box and sported dark colors. The “None of Your Concern” singer wore a burgundy, David Koma sequined dress with a high slit. The dress’s structure resembles that of traditional Chinese dresses, with a high neck and form-fitting bodice. Aiko paired the form-fitting dress with sparkly black heels.
5. Aiko serves up high-boot realness.
As mentioned, Aiko’s live performances always give fashion fairy realness! In 2022, while performing at the Smokin Grooves Festival in LA, she gracefully wore a yellow ensemble and metallic boots. The dress features a bright satin skirt and a slit up to her waist. The bodice is a pale corset with muted yellow sleeves to match the skirt. The futuristic, metallic boots reach her thigh, perfect for the high-cut skirt.
Aiko has consistently served us music, faces, and fairy fashion for over 10 years. Some of Aiko’s best fashion looks have inspired Black women to step outside the norm and tap into their own creativity on the style front.
