Christopher John Rogers is definitely fashion’s newest star right now. The 25-year-old designer has received praises from Michelle Obama, Lizzo, and Tracee Ellis Ross. In addition to dressing some of today’s biggest celebrities, the Baton Rouge native has received this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. As this year’s winner, Rogers will receive $400,000 and a year of mentorship from a CFDA member.
The designer, who is based in Brooklyn, is well-known for his bold colors and sequins. This has been a huge year for Rogers who had the honor of Michelle Obama wearing one of his custom looks, an iridescent cyan suit with Swarovski buttons for the final evening of her book tour.
In true fashion Rogers showed up on the red carpet wearing a red boiler suit and coat combo, complete with a matching boa and a pair of mini sunglasses. The Fashion Fund recipient was joined by Ashley Graham, Kat Graham, and Jameela Jamil who were all wearing his stunning designs.
Runners-up for the prestigious award include Danielle Hirsch, of the Bridal Company Danielle Frankel, and Reese Cooper of Reese Cooper. Each will receive $150,000.
This year’s panel of judges were helmed by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, and the CFDA’s Steven Kolb, and included Joseph Altuzarra, Vogue’s Chioma Nnadi and Mark Holgate, Eva Chen, Andrew Rosen, Jeffrey Kalinsky, Roopal Patel, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Elsesser.
