Billboard’s new alteration is a matter of balance. They are attempting to be more unbiased with music streams. The magazine will be implementing new tactics for their Billboard 100 and Billboard 200 record charts. How we listen to music is always changing, and streaming is the most prevalent way to enjoy our favorite artists. This change in the calculation of streams is concerned with certain streaming services the garner ad revenue.
Services that have consumers via paid subscriptions will have more weight than those that are funded by ads. In lamens terms, streaming on Apple Music will have more impact on the Billboard 100 than streaming on YouTube. This is a decision is a result of an effort to better see and understand what people are listening to and reward artist with chart placement they deserve.
