Another one bites the dust! Alexander Wang announced earlier this week he is to resign as Chief Executive Officer of his eponymous fashion brand.
However, the designer will still remain as Creative Director & Chairman of ‘Alexander Wang.’ The news comes after Wang spent just a year at the helm of the brand as well as managing the creative side. Previously he had been Creative Director of Balenciaga for three years of which Cédric Charbit is now. BOF reported that replacing Mr. Wang as CEO of the company will be Lisa Gersh; a former Goop executive. In her statement, Lisa said the brand “has always represented style, innovation and an extraordinary standard of quality and excellence. I’m looking forward to working with Alex…to continue to delight customers with our products and creative vision.”
Former Chief Marketing Officer at fashion platform Farfetch, Stephanie Horton, is also coming onboard as the Chief Strategy Officer. Stephanie said she looked “forward to working with the team to expand these capabilities…to develop new & innovative growth opportunities for the brand.”
The reasons for the changes as of late may indeed be for one of many reasons. Various reports suggest that even for a mogul like Wang, being the company CEO is a much tougher business when you’re also designing the shows. Whatever has brought about the shakeup, you can watch out for Alexander Wang “challenging the status quo.” The designer field is an ever-changing landscape.
