The MTV VMA’s are back this year with another set of front runners. The network announced its 2022 nominees and it looks like Lil Nas doesn’t have to fret at all as he did last month towards the BET Awards. The star called out BET for not recognizing his latest album Montero or its singles, including “Industry Baby” and “That’s What I Want,” in multiple since-deleted posts. Lil Nas X tied with Jack Harlow and Kendrick Lamar for the most nominations. All three artists received seven nominations at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
The acclaimed Queen of Pop, Madonna, has also made history as the only artist to be nominated in each decade since the MTV VMA’s began. She was already the most awarded artist in VMA history, with 20 wins. Madame X now boasts Madonna’s 69 career nominations.
Lil Nas and Jack Harlow share many of their nominations due to working together on “Industry Baby”. This includes ‘Video of the Year’ and ‘Best Collaboration’. They’ll however be competing against each other in the ‘Artist of the Year’ category, along with Bad Bunny, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, and Lizzo. Kendrick has been nominated for the first time since 2018. His nominations include Best Hip-Hop, for “N95”; Video for Good, for “The Heart Part 5”; and Best Direction, for “Family Ties.”
Doja Cat and Harry Styles scored six nominations each, while Drake, Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, and the Weekend each scored five.
BEST CHOREOGRAPHY
BTS, Doja Cat, FKA twigs were nominated for ‘Best Choreography’. Harry Styles, Lil Nas X and Normani made the category nominations as well. With the trending choreography by Sean Bankhead that took over social media for Normani’s “Wild Side” we are excited to see which artist takes the win.
The VMAs will air Sunday, Aug. 28, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, the CW, BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TVLand, and VH1.
