The Crate Challenge Do’s and Don’ts

The Black community has done it once again. We as a people have always had the power to create the trends that everyone wants to follow. However, this one can either end up really good or really bad. The crate challenge is a phenomenon that has been circulating around social media for a couple of weeks now. The task: walk across a stair-step-like platform made out of milk crates without falling. Now, the problem with this challenge is that the crates aren’t the sturdiest. People have been getting very injured during the process of this challenge, but those who persevere have been awarded with Twitter fame, community clout, and even up to $1,000 cash prizes. We are not encouraging you to participate in this challenge, but if you do… Here are some do’s and don’ts based on the successes and failures I’ve seen on social media.

Do…

Set the crates up in a soft area. If you do fall, which the majority of people do, you want a soft base on the ground for you to fall on. Concrete or the road is not a good environment to set the crates up.

Don’t…

Stack the creates higher than you can go. I know that other people are going pretty extreme with the height of the crates, but if you don’t think you can safely complete that level… Sit that one out, chile.

Do…

Wear athletic shoes and light clothing. Jeans, jackets, and other types of heavy clothing wear will probably make you lose balance even more. Also, sandals aren’t the most supportive either, even though I’ve seen people complete the challenge with heels on to make it even harder. They have superpowers. You… may not.

Don’t…

Stop paying attention to your steps. Even if you get excited, you’re getting close to the end. I’ve heard stories of people getting too hype too early when they are about to conquer the crates, then end up falling. They not only lose the money they were competing for but also put themself in a position to lose a limb. All because they were impatient, smh.

Do…

Make sure there are people around who will catch you if you fall!

Don’t…

Do this challenge if you have any ounce of fear or anxiety at all because it will probably result in failure! You’ll be overthinking up there, shaking, crying, and ready to just get down. However, be confident in your choice to do this challenge if you do end up participating.
