#ICYMI Streetstyle Looks at the World’s Longest Soul Train Line

In celebration of the 2021 Soul Train Awards taking place at the iconic Apollo Theater,  BET sponsored events throughout Harlem last weekend including a huge record-breaking Soul Train Line!

On Sunday, November 21, 2021, Harlem residents came together in East Harlem’s historic Marcus Garvey Park to attempt to break a Guinness World Record – the World’s Longest Soul Train Line.

The 70s fashion was impeccable, the vibe was immaculate, and the mood was infectious!  Everyone came together to make and celebrate history. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Soul Train!

The world record (previously held at 426 participants) was broken this past Sunday with a total of 536 soul train dancers! Officiated and monitored by a Guinness’ certified record authenticator, the Soul Train line had two simple rules in order to qualify: (1) All participants must dance the entirety of the Soul Train line (40 feet in total) and (2) All dancers on the two sidelines must be dancing at all times.

Boogey-ing down the line, there was The Rollerwave Crew with their quad skates and voluminous hair, the 40+ Double Dutch Club ready to “jump in” with their ropes in hand, and the Brooklyn United youth marching band with their superfly drummers and sassy dancers! Park passerby and onlookers were invited to join in on the fun and even members of the FDNY and NYPD served some of their best disco dance moves.

Here’s a look at some of the fashionably fabulous dancers in their 70s garb (some inspired and some truly vintage from 50+ years ago).
